For 2010, Tim has been selected to be part of the Orvis Contracted Fly Tyer program, which highlights the level of expertise that our fly tying classes offer. Specializing in a broad range of patterns and techniques, Tim can teach you how to tie flies for virtually any fishery on the planet, from classic patterns to cutting edge techniques. Many of his clients are excited to see his newest patterns and progressions each season but are never surprised at their effectiveness for fooling trout, bass, salmon, steelhead, and more from coast to coast.
When he’s not at his daughters’ swim meets or casting his favorite waters, Paul can be found hunting big game, turkeys, or waterfowl with his yellow lab, Jessie.
As a proud member of the Rivers’ “Ski Patrol,” Jay figures into our guiding group as the soft spoken, patient guide. To chase away the Chicago blues, he took his Schuylkill County roots with him to Chicago’s Orvis store in 2002 and taught city slickers the art of fly fishing. His Midwest adventures also included chasing trout, steelhead and salmon along the productive tributaries of Lake Michigan and the Wisconsin and Michigan interiors. After three years, he was thankful to return home and meet up with Rivers in 2005 to become a guide and instructor. His love for fishing small streams like Clark’s Creek is only superseded by his desire to share his knowledge and love for fly fishing with the novice, as well as soak up the stories and history of the sport from his peers. Be it in the fly fishing classroom or behind the oars on the Lehigh, Jay takes pride in delivering an enjoyable and productive experience for all. When fishing with the other guides, Jay somehow manages to wiggle his way out of rowing, but his uncanny ability to “break the ice” and find the first fish usually gets him off the hook. Residing between the shop in New Ringgold and the Lehigh Valley, Jay covers plenty of water in Lehigh, Berks and Schuylkill Counties.
Charlie joined the Rivers guide staff in the spring of 2010. Originally from the Sebago lakes region of Maine, Charlie has been in constant pursuit of everything that swims. Being drawn to the wilderness, he spent as much time as possible fishing, hunting, and camping throughout the woods of Maine and New Hampshire. Perhaps Charlie can sum up his road to being a Rivers guide best when he says, "In 1985 I was traveling to Baltimore and took a short cut to Lake Ontario then headed southeast. Between New York and Pennsylvania, I made my way along an awesome looking river in the Hancock, NY area and headed towards Middletown and said to myself. 'I'm going to fish that someday!'" The River he speaks of and has extensive knowledge about is the Upper Delaware. Since moving to PA in the mid 90's he has not been able to stay away from the upper Delaware region until recently realizing that great water was closer to home in the Lehigh River Watershed. Always preferring to fish big water, Charlie feels at home behind the oars on the larger rivers we fish throughout Pennsylvania and New York. Having traveled and fished throughout the entire lower 48 he's more than happy to share what knowledge he has regarding fishing, boating and fly tying.
