Gun Dog Training
Training a gun dog is something that is better done right the first time. From starting puppies to advanced field and water work, Rivers Gun Dog Training programs are designed for the hunter and the Hunt Test enthusiast. Field work is conducted at our private preserve where under the guidance of our expert trainers, instruction is tailored to the specific requirement of each dog. Our coaching programs are designed for the gun dog and handler, covering all aspects of gun dog training including equipment, commands and dog psychology.
Fees and Training Programs
Field Evaluation
Here is a good way to get started. This 2 to 3 hour program helps identify your dogs’ talents and includes a 3 step training plan. Cost is $120.
4 Week Private Coaching Program
For the handler interested in learning how to train this 4 series class is for the dog and owner. Each class your dog will be brought out and trained in 3 to 4 separate 15 to 20 minute sessions with a rest period between each session. During the dogs' rest periods, you will observe. You can bring up to 3 dogs to each class. This program includes:
• 5 mid week progress evaluations via email
• Training assignments
• Training Handouts
Cost is $480 plus birds. Travel expense applied off-site. $20 for each dog over 3.
Multi Handler Coaching Program
Same itinerary as our private coaching program except you can train with a friend at a discounted rate.
Train with a friend, the cost is $320 plus birds. Travel expense applied off-site. Maximum 3 Handlers.
30 Day Training and Boarding
We also offer a full service training program that is a very customized and
limited to a few dogs each month. This service includes:
• 30 days boarding
• Mid week progress reports via email
• Handling sessions for the owner
• Training Handouts
• 25 hours of documented training with a detailed training report at the end of the 30 day program
Cost of this program is the $695 plus the cost of birds.
Spaniel Training Seminars
• Cost is $400 plus travel expense
• 8 hour “hands on “custom programs designed for individual clubs.
• All programs also include seminar note and training handouts

Our training programs will expose your dog to birds, cover and scent. These are key elements in successful gun dog training. As stated above, our programs are tailored to each individual dog and their specific training needs. This is extremely important in the proper training of a good gun dog. Just as important as dog training is proper owner training. Our coaching programs are designed to help you better understand your dogs’ training needs so that you may successfully continue the training of your gun dog.
