Soft hackles are great, but they were never meant for fast water. Strong currents plaster all of the fibers against the body of the fly and they lose much of their bugginess. Decades ago western anglers understood this and developed hair hackled flies with stiff hair collars that fished perfectly in fast water. Our Not So Soft Hackle flies, designed with these principles in mind, fish just like the hair hackles of years gone by but are much more affordable. These flies are tied to match the hatch and all versions have some pearlescent flash behind the "hackle" for added attraction. Perfect for big fast river like the Lehigh where they are sure to produce when swung through riffles and runs during a hatch.
